Our client is the Finance group of a leading pharmaceutical company based out of Chicago, IL, and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
The newly formed data analytics team within the Finance group was helping the team move to a cloud based BI platform from traditional excel based reporting. As part of the BI transition exercise, MResult was asked to assist in the exploratory development of a proof of concept (POC) dashboard utilizing the client’s cloud infrastructure.
The leadership team felt the necessity of an automated dashboard that can provide an overview of cost shifts for the entire portfolio of clinical projects. The dashboard must allow users to clearly view the change in cost through custom cost categories and associated granular data that drives the change. In addition, change in cost categories must be linked to predefined business rules to ascertain whether or not the change violates any business rules to facilitate appropriate actions.
MResult was tasked to explore datasets from cloud databases for feasibility, design, and develop the dashboard in collaboration with the leadership team and the Finance group’s data analytics team.
The solution required extensive data exploratory techniques, validations, and focus group discussions with multiple stakeholders for streamlining requirements in order to align business needs, intended users and solution development.
MResult analytics team created the dashboard using Tableau with Redshift as backend database hosted on AWS cloud.
The dashboard acts as an automated tool for tracking change in cost across cost categories thus enabling better decision-making for the leadership team, study managers, and financial analysts. The dashboard also provides valuable insights which then helps study managers predict quarterly forecasts and aids leadership and study managers to efficiently manage their budgets and future forecast requirements.
